Bring your AI agent to WhatsApp

What you need to connect an Orage AI agent to WhatsApp, how conversations work, and what to check before inviting an audience.

Make the conversation worth opening

WhatsApp can make an agent easier to reach for people who already use it. It does not make the agent useful on its own. First build a focused experience in the web app: a clear job, a method that reflects your expertise, and a response you can trust enough to test with others.

For example, a team mentor can help someone think through a blocked handoff. Keep the first exchange simple. Ask for the missing context instead of presenting a long form or a menu of unrelated features.

What you need before connecting

You need a running Orage instance, working model access, administrator access, and a supported WhatsApp provider connection. The managed WhatsApp setup in Orage uses Kapso. The host must have its provider credentials and a public HTTPS callback configured.

Provider accounts, eligible numbers, billing, and WhatsApp requirements belong to the provider setup. They are not included just because Orage is running. Check the current provider requirements before choosing a number or inviting an audience.

Follow the channel setup in Admin

Open Admin, then Channels. The WhatsApp section shows what is missing and the next available action. A host administrator completes host provider setup; the instance owner then follows the WhatsApp connection flow.

Keep the provider and Orage states in view. A pending connection is not a working inbox. Wait until the setup reports a connected number, then test a message from the intended user's device.

Verify the whole message path

Send a message to the configured number. Confirm that it reaches the right agent, produces one response, and returns to the same conversation. Check that two different people do not share private conversation context.

Also test a reply after a restart, a provider failure, and the path back to the web app when account linking is supported. The contact card helps people find the number again; it appears only when Orage can resolve the connection's number.

Choose the channel your audience will use

The web app gives people a place to inspect files and longer work. Messaging is useful for a short question or a familiar daily interaction. Orage also supports iMessage through Linq and a Telegram bot, each with its own setup requirements.

Begin with one channel and a small group. Review where people hesitate, which questions recur, and whether they return. Expand after the complete experience works, including recovery when a connection fails.
